The MOST INTENSE movie I have ever been apart of

Well, we are WELL into our production, and I can honestly say this is the MOST INTENSE movie I have ever been apart of.

I am so excited, for so many reasons.

This film is horrific.  But in such a different way than any project I have been apart of.  While it’s violent, and scary, and yes, bloody – the horror this time around comes from the amazing acting, and tense situations our characters are placed in.

It’s no secret that I have always been a fan of horror, and horror films.  But unlike SAW, this is NOT some torture porn film.  It’s not some blood fest, nor some exploitation flick.  This is a character study…  Unlike other films of it’s kind.  It’s not a character study of the just the victims;  but also of the killers.  The film doesn’t take sides, or skew itself to frown on any of the characters or their decisions, it just presents itself to the audience for them to side with who they like.

It’s as much a thriller as it is a horror film.

Last night we were shooting a scene where one of the brothers (Addley) was beating one of the house guests brutally with a pool ball… And while blood was flying, and tears were being shed, something happened… I couldn’t tell who I was rooting for… Part of be was so in the head space of the victims, and was scared for them.  The other part of me, understood why Addley was doing what he was doing, and I kind’a felt for him… WHAT THE FUCK I thought?!  You are not suppose to feel for Addley… He is beating someone senseless with a Cue Ball… But I did… as much as I cared for poor Daniel being beaten by that very cue ball…

My point is this… This movie is morphed into something I don’t think any of us saw in the early stages… While it’s delivers on the blood and gore, while it pays homage to the 1980’s classic, it’s has become something more substantial.  Its crossed just being another horror film, to being a thriller, a drama, and yes, at times, even a comedy.

Today, we are off to shoot some more of the house scenes… It gets INSANE as I have 8 to 10 actors on screen at any given time… Which sounded great in the conceptual stage,  in the blocking and shooting stage it has turned into a NIGHTMARE… Shooting coverage and covering EYE lines will be the death of me!  That being said, every single actor in this movie is amazing, and brought so much more to their character, and this story than I ever could have hoped for.

Off to the set… Mother is calling… And trust me, you do NOT want to keep her waiting.

  1. Really have to say that initially, I was one of “those” fans. Sickened at the very idea of yet another horror remake. But I must admit, I do like that it is actually becoming it’s own entity and not merely trying to recreate the cult film.

I am anxious to see this for its own merits as well as what elements from the original are carried over. While there has been mention of in-jokes and references aplenty to appease the hardcore fans, my biggest hope is that one of the originals greatest assets kept retained are the strong female characters.

  2. To hear that a cult film is being remade {havent watched the original, but will in the future}, but containing Darren Lynn Bousman’s talented eye to creating the intensity, drama, and horror. Then going into character study is morphing it to a higher and unique level. I cant wait to see how the characters interact, how the Mother’s son’s interact with the Mother, and the victim’s to the suspects, and anybody else to each other. What they would do in certain situation’s. I think strong female character’s are essential too. To hear it being shot-by-shot of Ingmar Bergman’s ‘Virgin Spring’ sounds awesome.

    Cant wait!

Hat off already to everybody in the cast and crew. The movie is going to kick butt!

  4. My friend and I just finished watching this movie and thought, well, with that ending, there HAS to be a sequel. Well there’s not. But there is a remake?! WHAT?! We are beside ourselves with joy & anticipation and WILL be in theratres opening night in Atlanta! A true victory for horror movie buffs.
